Source code
Your first EA source-code customisation: a small change that teaches you
A first customisation should be easy to describe and easy to observe. Changing a readable log message or adding a display-only status label can teach you the edit–compile–run loop without changing entry or exit decisions.
Choose a narrow outcome
Write one sentence such as “show the active session name in the log at startup”. Identify the relevant function and preserve an untouched copy of the project. Keep your first patch small enough to explain.
Use AI as a guide if helpful
Ask for an explanation before a patch. Tell the assistant which behaviour must stay unchanged and share only code you are permitted to disclose. Review the proposed difference rather than replacing the entire project blindly.
Verify what changed
Compile the edited source, then check the new output in a suitable test. Compare the original and edited settings. A display-only change should not silently alter lot sizing, execution or filters.
Grow from a complete project
MQLume supplies full editable source and supporting guides, so your next idea can build on an existing implementation. Start with a visible improvement, then progress to a clearly defined trading rule when you are ready.
