Margin call and stop out in MT5: identify the account thresholds
A stop loss belongs to a position or strategy. A broker stop-out rule belongs to the account. Understanding both makes it easier to explain why a position disappeared even when the EA did not issue its planned exit.
Check the threshold mode
MT5 account properties expose margin-call and stop-out levels and whether those levels use a percentage or a monetary mode. Read the mode together with the number. A bare threshold copied from another broker is not enough to interpret this account.
Use a labelled example
In a simplified percentage-mode example, equity of 500 and used margin of 1000 gives a margin level of 50 percent. This calculation illustrates the ratio only; it does not establish your broker threshold, liquidation sequence or actual execution price.
Trace the closure reason
Compare the account history, server messages and EA log around the event. Separate an EA-issued exit from broker-side liquidation. Include other open positions because the account-level calculation can change even when the position under investigation has not changed.
Build a useful account view
A custom dashboard can show equity, used margin, free margin and the threshold mode together. Ask AI to label unavailable values rather than substituting zero. Such a view helps you understand account capacity without confusing higher leverage with a smaller market loss.
