MT5 disconnected: a practical EA recovery checklist

An unchanged chart does not always mean the EA has failed. Check the terminal’s connection indicator, the age of the latest quote and whether the instrument is currently in a trading session.

Confirm the environment

Verify the intended account and broker server without sharing passwords. Compare another active symbol. If all quotes are stale, inspect the connection and Journal before changing strategy inputs.

Reconnect without duplicating the setup

Avoid opening several terminals with identical active charts as a quick fix. After connection returns, inspect positions and pending orders already held by the broker before assuming that nothing happened during the interruption.

Check the EA’s recovery record

Read Experts and Journal around the outage. Look for initialisation, rejected requests and state recovery. A server-held stop and a terminal-managed exit are different mechanisms, so identify which applies.

Keep a small incident note

Record start time, last quote, reconnection time and any affected orders. This makes a support request useful and helps you improve hosting. A clear event trail is more valuable than repeatedly reinstalling the platform.
