AI trading bot or AI-assisted coding: understand the difference

An AI coding assistant can help produce ordinary rule-based MQL5 code. That does not mean the finished EA uses a machine-learning model at runtime. Ask what the AI actually does and where it runs.

Identify the runtime mechanism

A rule-based EA may use thresholds and indicators. A model-based EA may run an ONNX model with defined inputs and outputs. An external service adds a network dependency. These are different designs with different operational needs.

Look for the inputs and outputs

For a runtime model, inspect feature preparation, model version and how a prediction becomes a trading action. For AI-assisted development, inspect the resulting code and its documented behaviour instead.

Choose a useful first task

Ask an assistant to explain an input, improve a log message or add one clearly specified filter. This gives you a concrete result without treating the word AI as a substitute for a strategy definition.

Make the product your own

MQLume’s editable source supports learning and customisation with a tool of your choice. An AI subscription is separate, and an AI label alone says nothing about the return a strategy will achieve.
