MT5 SET files: save, load and organise EA presets
A SET file is a reusable input configuration. Treat it as the recipe for a particular EA build and test environment, not as the EA itself.
What a preset contains
A preset stores input values exposed by the program. It does not contain executable trading logic, historical prices or the complete account environment. Changing the source may add or rename inputs, so a familiar filename does not establish that an old preset fits a new build.
Save a known starting point
- Open the EA Inputs tab and use Reset when establishing the delivered defaults.
- Review the visible values, then Save with a descriptive filename.
- Load the preset into the intended EA and inspect the values again.
- Record the symbol, timeframe, account mode and EA version beside the file.
Separate a test value from an optimisation range
The Strategy Tester can show a current value alongside start, step and stop columns used for optimisation. A range is not a list of settings the EA automatically cycles through during an ordinary single test. Check the optimisation mode as well as the active value before interpreting a report.
Build a useful preset library
Use names such as product-version-symbol-purpose rather than best-settings. Keep a small note describing what changed and why. When a renamed input fails to carry over, set the intended value explicitly and save a new preset. This gives you a clear route back to the starting configuration.
