Source code
Your capital deserves understanding: why EA source code matters
Your trading ideas deserve more than a settings panel. Source code opens the door to understanding the decisions a strategy makes—and changing the ones you want to make your own.
See the decisions behind the curve
A backtest shows what happened under a particular set of conditions. The code helps explain why: what triggers an entry, how exposure grows, what closes a position and which filters can prevent a trade. Reading these rules makes a performance report more informative. You can connect a losing period to the actual logic, rather than trying to infer everything from a smooth curve.
Turn AI into your reading companion
You can start with a simple question: “Explain the entry conditions in plain English and point to the functions that implement them.” Follow with position sizing and exits. Ask the assistant to distinguish what it found in the code from what it is assuming. This turns a large file into a sequence of manageable explanations. Share only code you are entitled to share, with an AI service whose privacy settings you understand.
Ask what the impressive words actually mean
Machine learning and quantum-inspired terminology deserve concrete explanations. Is a model loaded? What inputs does it receive, and how does its output affect a trade? Does a historical-date filter or tester-specific branch change behaviour? These are useful questions, not automatic evidence of wrongdoing. With the relevant source and dependencies, you can investigate how the feature works rather than relying on its name.
Make one idea your own
A useful first project might be clearer log messages, a session control or a more convenient input. Keep the original, ask for a focused change and compare the behaviour. MQLume offers editable projects and documentation to give that process a starting point. Prefer to begin with the program itself? Choose the EX5 edition; choose source when you want to inspect and customise the implementation. MoonDog and Smart Gold Hunter let you begin with a free source package.
